At 210mm × 297mm, A4 gives restaurants, cafés, pubs, takeaways and hotels room for food, drinks and prices without moving to a larger format. A laminated 250gsm or 350gsm menu can be wiped down and handed round all week. Thin, unlaminated paper won't last that long.

Choose the Right Paper Stock for A4 Menus
A table menu crosses tables dozens of times a night and gets wiped between sittings. A takeaway menu is read once and thrown away. Different jobs, different paper. For most A4 restaurant menus used again and again at the table, 250gsm silk is a strong starting point, particularly with lamination.
| Stock | How it feels | Where it works |
| 90gsm or 120gsm uncoated | Thin, paper-like, easy to write on | Single-use event menus, letterbox takeaway menus |
| 115gsm or 150gsm silk, 130gsm gloss | Light, smooth printed surface | Takeaway and delivery menus in volume, specials inserts |
| 170gsm silk or uncoated | Firmer but flexible | Seasonal and event menus |
| 250gsm silk or uncoated | Card-like, holds its shape | Everyday restaurant, café and pub table menus |
| 350gsm silk or uncoated | Rigid, with real weight | Wine lists, cocktail menus, hotels and fine dining |
| 450gsm silk | Our heaviest option, close to board | Menus where the feel is part of the experience |
Silk shows food photography in crisp detail and takes lamination cleanly. Uncoated has a natural, textured surface that suits craft or minimal branding, though colours print a little softer because the ink soaks into the fibres.
The false economy to avoid is a 90–130gsm sheet on the table. Even laminated, it stays floppy and looks tired fast.
Specify the menu for its busiest Saturday, not for the day it arrives.
Laminated A4 Menu Printing
Lamination makes a printed A4 menu better suited to repeated table service. It protects the print from spills, handling and wiping, and adds a little stiffness.
Matt Laminated A4 Menus
Matt cuts glare from pendant lights and windows, and fingerprints don't show as easily. It's the easiest finish to read across a table, which makes it a sensible default for most dining rooms.
Gloss Laminated A4 Menus
Gloss makes colours richer and food photos sharper. When the pictures do the selling, as they often do on takeaway, burger and dessert menus, gloss is the one to pick. Expect more reflection under overhead lights.
Soft-Touch Laminated A4 Menus
Soft-touch has a velvety, almost suede-like feel. It pairs well with 350gsm stock and foil, and suits venues where menus are handled with care rather than stacked by the till.
Whatever finish you choose, a double-sided menu needs double-sided lamination. Laminate one face only and the back is left unprotected, and the sheet can curl slightly.
Premium A4 Menu Printing with Spot UV and Foil
High-build spot UV adds a raised, clear gloss to areas such as your logo, on one or both sides. Gold and silver foil add a metallic finish to one side. Both look best on matt or soft-touch lamination, where the shine stands out against the flat surface.
Keep these finishes for brand elements rather than prices. Prices change; your logo doesn't. [VERIFY: how customers should supply spot UV and foil artwork, as a separate mask file or a named layer.]
A4 Menu Printing for Restaurants, Cafés, Pubs, Takeaways and Hotels
- Restaurants with food on the front and drinks on the back usually do well with 250gsm silk, matt laminated on both sides.
- Cafés suit 250gsm with matt lamination, on uncoated stock if the brand leans artisan.
- Pubs and bars, where menus sit out all day, get more life from 350gsm.
- Takeaways usually choose 115–130gsm, unlaminated and ordered in bulk for bags and door drops.
- Hotels and fine dining rooms often go for 350–450gsm with soft-touch and a touch of foil.
If your specials change faster than your main menu, put them on table talkers instead of reprinting the A4 menu every week.
A4 Menu Printing vs A3 and Folded Menus
If your dishes already fill two tight columns per side, move up to A3 menu printing rather than shrinking the type. If your menu runs in sections, from starters through to drinks, a folded format usually reads more naturally.
A4 Menu Artwork and Pre-Press Requirements
Most menu problems start in the file, not on the press. Set your PDF up like this:
- 210mm × 297mm trim size, plus 3mm bleed on every edge
- Prices and text kept well inside the trim line [VERIFY: your safe margin in mm]
- CMYK colour, because RGB images can dull when converted, especially bright reds and greens
- Images at 300dpi at their final printed size
- All fonts embedded or outlined
We check files before printing [VERIFY: what your pre-press check covers]. Two design traps come up more than any others: thin script fonts on prices, and pale text on dark backgrounds under gloss. Both struggle in dim evening light. Our guide to creating menus that sell more food covers the layout decisions that shape what guests order.

A4 Menu Printing FAQs
What size is an A4 menu?
An A4 menu measures 210mm × 297mm, portrait or landscape. Set your artwork up at 216mm × 303mm to include 3mm bleed on every edge. For a short dessert or cocktail list, an A5 menu is often a better fit.
What paper weight should I use for A4 restaurant menus?
For A4 restaurant menus used at the table every day, 250gsm silk with matt or gloss lamination is a strong starting point. Choose 350gsm or 450gsm for a heavier, more rigid menu. Keep 90–130gsm for takeaway and single-use menus.
How much does A4 menu printing cost?
The price of A4 menu printing depends on stock, print sides, lamination, finish, quantity and turnaround. The configurator recalculates as you change each option, so you see the exact price before ordering. Prices are shown plus VAT, and the cost per menu falls as quantity rises.
How quickly can you print A4 menus?
Choose 1 working day for urgent A4 menu printing, 3–4 working days for standard orders, or Express. Delivery time comes on top of production. Same-day production isn't offered on this product. [VERIFY: Express and delivery wording.]
What is the minimum order for A4 menu printing?
You can print A4 menus from 25 copies, which keeps small runs affordable for new openings, seasonal changes and price updates. Larger orders go up to 100,000 copies for takeaway drops or menus across several sites.
What file format do you need for A4 menus?
Upload a print-ready PDF in CMYK, with 3mm bleed and fonts embedded. If your file isn't ready, choose Send It Later and use the link we send after checkout. No artwork yet? Our menu design service [VERIFY: link to Menu Design page] creates files built for print.
Do you print A4 menus in London?
