Pavement Sign – A1 & A0 Water Base Forecourt Sign
A1 & A0 water base outdoor pavement sign with a double-sided snap frame, spring-mounted stand and optional printed PVC posters.
Pavement signs tend to fail in one of two ways. Either they can't cope with the weather and end up face-down on the pavement, or they never change, and the same faded offer sits outside for months until regulars stop seeing it. This weighted water base pavement sign is designed around both problems. A 25-litre base filled with water or sand keeps it standing, springs let the frame flex in a breeze instead of fighting it, and a double-sided snap frame means a new poster goes in within minutes rather than needing a new sign.
Available in A1 and A0 sizes, this double-sided pavement sign has a 25-litre water- or sand-fillable base, a spring-mounted frame and recessed wheels for outdoor use. Order the frame only, the frame with two printed PVC posters, or replacement posters for a frame you already have. Choose Saver, Standard or Express turnaround and upload your PDF now or send it later. The price updates as you select your options and is shown plus VAT. Posters are printed at our Croydon studio for businesses across London and the UK.
Choose Your Pavement Sign: Size, Package and Turnaround
A1 or A0 pavement sign: which size?
Both sizes use the same water base stand. The difference is poster area and how much pavement the sign takes up.
| A1 pavement sign | A0 pavement sign | |
| Poster size | 594 × 841mm | 841 × 1189mm |
| Visible poster area | Slightly less than the full sheet: keep at least 10mm (ideally 25mm) clear under the frame clips | Same 10–25mm quiet border rule |
| Tends to suit | Narrower pavements, shop doorways, café fronts, arcades | Wider pavements, forecourts, garage and hotel entrances, longer approaches |
| What it gives you | A compact footprint with a strong single message | More poster area for larger headlines and simpler long-distance messaging |
If you're unsure, think about distance rather than space. A bigger poster only helps if the extra area goes into larger lettering. Our guide on how far away people can actually read a pavement sign explains how headline size and reading distance relate.
Frame with 2 posters, frame only or poster only
Frame with 2 Posters is the complete outdoor pavement sign: stand, base and two printed posters of the same design, one for each face. Frame Only suits you if you already have posters at the right size. Poster Only is for replacement pavement sign posters, whether you're refreshing a faded design, running a seasonal offer or swapping the message on a sign you already own.

Water Base Pavement Sign: Built to Stay Put Outdoors
The 25-litre base is what separates a water base (or waterbase) pavement sign from a lightweight folding board. Empty, it weighs 4.33kg, light enough to position easily. Filled, it anchors the frame.
Water or sand? Water is the easy option: about 25kg of extra weight, simple to fill from a tap and simple to empty if you move the sign. Sand makes a heavier base and won't freeze in a cold snap, but it's harder to empty, so it suits a sign that stays in one place.
Springs, not rigid legs. The frame is mounted on high-quality springs, so a gust makes it rock gently rather than catching the wind like a sail. This wind-resistant pavement sign is rated to withstand winds of up to 18mph, roughly a moderate breeze. On days forecast to be windier than that, bring it inside.
Recessed wheels in the base let you tilt and roll the sign out each morning and back in at closing, without lifting it.
Double-Sided Snap Frame: New Posters in Minutes
A snap frame holds the poster under hinged clip profiles around its edge. Open the profiles, lay the new poster in, snap them shut, and it's held flat and secure on both faces of the sign.
That's why this double-sided pavement sign can work out cheaper over time than a sign printed as one fixed piece. The stand is a one-off purchase; the message is a reprint. Posters are printed on 410gsm PVC rather than paper, so they handle rain, handling and repeated changes far better than standard poster stock.
Where This Outdoor Pavement Sign Works Best
This pavement sign earns its place wherever the message changes more often than the business does: cafés and restaurants rotating menus and lunch deals, pubs promoting match days, salons and retailers running seasonal offers, and garages, hotels and car washes catching passing trade on the forecourt. At events it works as a welcome or direction point, with lightweight Correx signs for short-term directions around a venue.
Position matters as much as the poster. Our article on where to place a pavement sign explains why the best spot isn't always beside your door. On the public pavement, check your council's rules first; a private forecourt is usually simpler.
Is This Pavement Sign Better Than an A-Board for Your Business?
If you're deciding between a water base pavement sign and a traditional A-board, the practical difference comes down to stability, portability and how often you need to change the message.
| Water base pavement sign (this product) | Folding A-board or A-frame | |
| Stability | Weighted 25-litre base with springs that flex in a breeze | Relies on its own weight and leg spread |
| Changing the message | Swap the printed poster in the snap frame | Reprint the board, or use chalk/wipe-clean versions |
| Moving it daily | Rolls on recessed wheels | Folds flat to carry |
| Best for | Frequently changing offers and exposed forecourts | Fixed branding or hand-written specials |
If a printed board suits you better, our outdoor A-boards are built for heavy daily use, and the A-frame sign offers custom-printed and chalkboard-style variants. For a permanent sign fixed to a wall or fence, aluminium composite signage is the longer-term option. Compare every format across our signage range.

Pavement Signs: Questions Before You Order
Can I order an A1 or A0 pavement sign online?
Yes. Select A1 or A0, choose Frame Only, Frame with 2 Posters or Poster Only, pick your turnaround and complete your order online. You can upload your print-ready PDF during checkout or send your artwork later.
How much does a pavement sign cost?
The price depends on the size, whether you choose the frame only, frame with two posters or posters only, and your turnaround. The live price is shown as you select your options and is displayed plus VAT.
Does the pavement sign come with posters?
It does if you choose Frame with 2 Posters: you get the stand, base and two printed posters of the same design, one per face. Frame Only gives you the stand without posters, and Poster Only is for a frame you already have.
Can I have a different design on each side?
The Frame with 2 Posters option prints the same design twice. For a different message on each face, order the frame with posters for one design, then add a second design through the Poster Only option.
Is this pavement sign suitable for outdoor use?
Yes. The weighted base and spring mount keep it stable in winds of up to 18mph, and the posters are printed on 410gsm PVC, which copes with outdoor conditions far better than paper. Bring it in during stronger winds.
How quickly can I get a pavement sign?
Production takes 6 working days on Saver, 4 on Standard or 2 on Express, plus delivery. Uploading a print-ready PDF at checkout helps avoid delays.
What artwork do you need for pavement sign posters?
A print-ready PDF at A1 or A0 size, 300dpi minimum, in CMYK, with fonts outlined or embedded. Keep at least 10mm, ideally 25mm, clear around every edge, because the frame clips cover that border.
Can I buy replacement posters for my pavement sign?
Yes. Choose Poster Only, select A1 or A0, and upload your new design. It's the cheapest way to keep a sign fresh, whether you're replacing a faded poster or making regular seasonal and promotional changes.
